Affiliate Marketing for Authors

Affiliate Marketing for Authors title

Years ago, I become an affiliate for various brands that pay me as I juggle the process of getting a book from my brain to the page. Makes sense, right? As an indie author, you’re writing and managing a team of editors, graphic designers, and marketing consultants. You need a way to make passive income while all that is happening.

Affiliate marketing is one of those ways.

Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission from an online retailer by generating sales through your referrals.

This is not a get rich quick scenario. You have to put in some elbow grease first (example: I wrote this blog post). But afterward, you’re free to move on to another project knowing you very may well receive repeat commissions from that ONE post.

For example, I’m an affiliate for Vellum, an ebook formatting software. I absolutely love this software and use it often! Anytime I share my “affiliate link” with the public, and someone clicks that link and buys Vellum for themselves, I receive a nice commission. (It’s happened multiple times. Thank you to all who have bought from my link 😍😍😍)

As an affiliate marketer, you don’t need inventory and you don’t have to deliver anything yourself. No shipping costs! Instead, you simply lead others to a solution to their problem by sharing products and services that can help them.

If you could become an affiliate for your favorite brands, why wouldn’t you?

Think about all the tools you need to buy for your business: email subscription service like Mailerlite, data analytics, Canva for graphic design, ebook delivery services … so many.

When I started this blog, I determined to use affiliate marketing as my funding source for all those tools that I had to purchase. In other words, as long as I made a side income to cover my subscriptions and services to those services, I was happy!

That’s where I went wrong.

I mean, seriously, if I could make enough to cover my basic expenses, why not strive to actually make, you know, a living wage, too. LOL

What changed my mind was an inexpensive course that blew up my minuscule expectations–and you’re in luck because the course I took has been updated with so much good info!

Honestly, I had a bad cold at the time that I signed up (achoo!) and was too sick to work much, so I invested in some entertaining education – edutainment, if you will – and it stunned me when I realized how these skills could be applied to my indie author business, and even become another business altogether if I wanted it to!

Like you, I’ve purchased a ton of courses from gurus inside the publishing industry. But this was the first time I stuck my toe outside the writing community and began to learn from seasoned marketers in other industries.

Want to learn how you can reach more readers–and find more success in your indie author business–by refining both your digital marketing and affiliate marketing skills?

You do? Great!
